PETALING JAYA:
The 12th Sarawak elections will take place on Dec 18, with early voting set for Dec 14.

Election Commission (EC) chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh announced that nominations will be on Dec 6.

The EC has appointed 82 election officers, who will be assisted by 249 assistant officers, for the polls.

“The commission will also set up 155 campaign teams, comprising EC enforcement officers and representatives from the police, local councils and contesting parties, to monitor activities throughout the campaign period,” Ghani told a press conference after chairing a meeting to discuss the polls.

However, he did not elaborate on the health and safety SOPs that will be put in place during the election period.

A total of 1,252,014 voters are eligible to cast their ballots.

The Yang di-Pertuan Agong announced the end of the state of emergency in Sarawak on Nov 3, paving the way for the elections that have been due since June when the state assembly was set to automatically dissolve.
