5,501 Covid-19 cases, 7 clusters

The health ministry also reported 6,664 recoveries.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 5,501 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,614,480.

In a statement, he said 6,664 patients had recovered while 519 patients remain in intensive care, 445 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 74 suspected of being infected.

A total of 267 patients need respiratory assistance, with 167 Covid-19 positive and the remaining 100 suspected of being positive.

There were 5,476 local infections today, involving 5,278 Malaysians and 198 foreigners, and 25 imported cases.

Of these, only 1.4% of patients were in Category 3, 4 or 5 at the time of diagnosis.

Noor Hisham also said there were seven clusters reported today.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 infectivity rate, or R0, stood at 0.99, with Labuan – which was reclassified as a red zone today – having the highest R0 level of 1.19.

This was followed by Kuala Lumpur (1.06), Melaka (1.06), Putrajaya (1.04), Selangor (1.04), Pahang (1.03), Kedah (1.03), Johor (1.02) and Perak (1.02).

The remaining states recorded R0 levels below 1.00.
