4,896 Covid-19 cases, 4 clusters

The health ministry also reported 4,676 recoveries.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 4,896 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, a drop from the 5,551 infections detected yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,654,474.

He said 4,676 patients had recovered, while 490 patients remained in intensive care, with 358 of them confirmed to be Covid-19 positive and 132 suspected of being infected.

A total of 269 patients needed respiratory assistance, with 155 Covid-19 positive and the remaining 114 suspected of being positive.

There were 4,878 local infections today, involving 4,675 Malaysians and 203 foreigners, and 18 imported cases.

Of these, only 1.6% of patients were in Category 3, 4 or 5 at the time of diagnosis.

Noor Hisham also said four clusters were reported today.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R0, pronounced R-nought) stood at 0.97, with Perlis having the highest R-nought level of 1.16.

This was followed by Kuala Lumpur and Selangor with 1.01.

The remaining states and federal territories recorded R-nought levels of below 1.00.
