PETALING JAYA:
A Covid-19 cluster has been detected at Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS), with 41 cases recorded so far.

According to Sabah’s Covid-19 spokesman Masidi Manjun, the index case was a 22-year-old Malaysian student.

“The index case, who exhibited symptoms on Dec 1, was found to be positive by the campus medical centre on Dec 2,” Harian Metro quoted Masidi as saying.

“The student has since completed his quarantine at the campus’ low-risk quarantine centre.

“From the screening of close contacts, we identified another 40 positive cases among the students and campus staff, who have been isolated and given treatment.”

Masidi, who is also the state housing and local government minister and the second finance minister, said 232 Covid-19 cases were detected yesterday.

This increased the total number of infected cases in Sabah to 237,535 so far.

He also said six deaths were identified yesterday – two in Ranau and one each in Keningau, Penampang, Semporna and Tawau.
