5,566 new Covid-19 cases, 7 clusters detected

The health ministry also reported 3,187 recoveries.

PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry has reported 5,566 Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, an increase from the 4,774 cases detected yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,876,324.

He said 3,187 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,787,190.

Meanwhile, 113 patients remain in intensive care, 90 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 23 suspected of being infected; 59 patients require respiratory assistance, with 40 patients Covid-19 positive and the remaining 19 suspected of being positive.

There were 5,339 local infections today, comprising 5,194 Malaysians and 145 foreigners. There were also 227 imported cases.

Noor Hisham said that of the new infections, only 0.9 % were Category 3, 4 and 5 cases.

He also said seven new clusters were reported today.

The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought, or R0) stood at 1.15, with Kedah and Johor having the highest R0 of 1.17, followed by Negeri Sembilan (1.16), Penang (1.14), Kuala Lumpur (1.13), Selangor (1.12), Sabah and Melaka (1.11), Kelantan (1.09), Perak (1.05), and Pahang (1.04). The remaining states and federal territories recorded R0 levels below 1.00.
