
This is an increase from the 9,117 cases reported yesterday.
In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,914,220.
He said 6,460 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,812,614.
Meanwhile, 137 patients remain in intensive care (ICU), 83 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 54 suspected of being infected.
Of the patients in ICU, 71 required respiratory assistance, with 35 patients Covid-19 positive and the remaining 36 suspected of being positive.
There were 9,946 local infections today, comprising 9,676 Malaysians and 270 foreigners. There were also 143 imported cases.
Noor Hisham said that of the new infections, only 0.8% were Category 3, 4 and 5 cases.
He also said 11 new clusters were reported today.
The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought, or R0) stood at 1.20, with Perlis having the highest R-nought of 1.49, followed by Sabah with 1.41, Putrajaya (1.29), Kedah (1.22), Selangor (1.19), Penang and Sarawak (1.17), Johor (1.16), Pahang (1.14), Terengganu (1.13), Kuala Lumpur (1.12), Melaka (1.11), Perak and Negeri Sembilan (1.10), Kelantan (1.08) and Labuan (0.00).
