
This is an increase from the 10,089 cases reported yesterday and 9,117 on Saturday.
The last time new infections numbered more than 11,000 was on Oct 1, 2021, when the country recorded 11,889 cases.
In a Twitter post, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections now stands at 2,925,254.
He said 6,036 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,818,650.
Meanwhile, 135 patients remain in intensive care (ICU), 84 of whom are confirmed Covid-19 positive and 51 suspected of being infected.
Of the patients in ICU, 81 required respiratory assistance, with 43 patients Covid-19 positive and the remaining suspected of being positive.
There were 10,957 local infections today, comprising 10,774 Malaysians and 183 foreigners. There were also 77 imported cases.
Noor Hisham said that of the new infections, only 0.5% were Category 3, 4 and 5 cases.
He also said 10 new clusters were reported today.
The country’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought, or R0) stood at 1.27, with Sabah having the highest R-nought of 1.47, followed by Perlis with 1.40, Sarawak with 1.30 and Labuan, Putrajaya and Kedah all with 1.25.
This was followed by Terengganu (1.23), Johor (1.22), Selangor (1.21), Penang (1.20), Pahang (1.20), Melaka (1.16), Perak (1.15), Negeri Sembilan (1.13), Kelantan (1.11) and Kuala Lumpur (1.10).
