
Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 103 of the new cases, or 0.37%, were in Categories 3, 4 or 5 at the time of diagnosis.
The total number of infections now stands at 3,166,023.
He added that 12,488 patients had recovered, bringing the total number of recoveries to 2,900,682.
In a statement, Noor Hisham also said there were 1,597 new hospital admissions.
There were also 16 clusters reported yesterday.
Yesterday’s cases comprised 27,689 local infections, involving 27,057 Malaysians and 632 foreigners. There were also 119 imported ones comprising 60 Malaysians and 59 foreigners.
There were 235 patients treated in intensive care units (ICU), with 92 Covid-19 positive and 143 suspected of being infected. Of the patients in ICU, 132 required respiratory assistance, with 55 positive and 77 suspected of being infected.
As of yesterday, 7,577 beds in hospitals were being utilised by Covid-19 patients and persons under investigation, that is 66% of the total capacity set aside for Covid-19 cases. The number of Covid-19 patients in ICUs were at 29% of their total capacity of 828 beds.
Of the 1,597 patients who were hospitalised yesterday, 1,055 were in Category 1 and 2 while 542 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.
Malaysia’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought or R0) stood at 1.27 with Labuan having the highest reading of 1.99, followed by Sarawak (1.50), Sabah (1.47), Perlis (1.44), Kedah (1.41), Penang (1.39), Terengganu (1.37), Kelantan (1.36), Selangor (1.32), Negeri Sembilan (1.30), Pahang (1.29), Kuala Lumpur (1.29), Johor (1.27), Putrajaya (1.27), Perak (1.23) and Melaka (1.21).
Meanwhile, of the 36 deaths recorded, 11 were classified as brought-in-dead (BID), according to the health ministry’s GitHub database. The death toll now stands at 32,276.
Most of the fatalities were recorded in Johor with 11, followed by Sabah (6), Selangor (6), Kedah (4), Penang (3), Perak (3), Negeri Sembilan (1), Terengganu (1) and Kuala Lumpur (1).
There were no deaths reported in other states and federal territories.
