1,520 new hospital admissions, Kelantan ICUs at 78% capacity

Sabah has the highest number of new admissions with 190, followed by Johor (181) and Perak (178).

PETALING JAYA:
There were 1,520 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 975 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 545 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Sabah had the highest number of new admissions with 190, followed by Johor (181) and Perak (178).

Meanwhile, 1,286 patients were discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 intensive care units (ICUs) were at 34% of their total capacity of 836 beds.

ICU beds in four regions have exceeded 50% capacity, namely Kelantan (78%), Johor (69%), Kuala Lumpur (62%), and Melaka (54%).

There were also nine clusters reported yesterday.

A total of 180 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilators being used at 37% of its maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds have exceeded 50% capacity in most states. They are Perlis (114%), Kelantan (108%), Selangor (99%), Perak (95%), Putrajaya (74%), Johor (72%), Kuala Lumpur (72%), Sabah (70%), Pahang (68%), Terengganu (54%), and Penang (51%).

In terms of public hospitals’ total capacity (Covid-19 and non-Covid-19 patients), non-critical beds were at 72% while 60% of ICUs were in use.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought or R0) stood at 1.16.
