1,677 new hospital admissions, ICUs at 60% capacity

A total of 1,447 patients were also discharged yesterday.

PETALING JAYA:
There were 1,677 new hospital admissions involving Covid-19 cases yesterday, the health ministry said.

Of this, 1,088 cases were in Category 1 and 2 while 589 were in Category 3, 4 and 5.

Selangor had the highest number of new admissions with 235, followed by Sabah (202) and Johor (187).

A total of 1,447 patients were discharged yesterday.

In a statement, health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Covid-19 cases at intensive care units (ICUs) were at 60% of their total capacity of 840 beds.

The utilisation of ICU beds for Covid-19 cases in seven regions has reached or exceeded 50% capacity, namely Kelantan (92%), Johor (61%), Perlis (55%), Perak (53%), Melaka (50%), Kuala Lumpur (50%) and Putrajaya (50%).

A total of 196 patients required respiratory assistance, with ventilator usage at 37% of their maximum capacity.

The use of normal Covid-19 beds has exceeded 50% capacity in Selangor (107%), Kelantan (97%), Putrajaya (93%), Kuala Lumpur (90%), Perak (89%), Perlis (75%), Johor (70%), Pahang (67%), Sabah (67%), Terengganu (61%), Penang (59%) and Sarawak (59%).

Five new clusters were reported yesterday.

Malaysia’s Covid-19 infectivity rate (R-nought or R0) has dropped to 1.11.
