Noting that not all Malaysians register themselves at the Malaysian embassy or consulate when they are overseas, he urged those who had not done so to register immediately.
“Thirteen Malaysians left Ukraine from Feb 14 to 24, and on Feb 26, another nine citizens, including two embassy staff, were evacuated from Kyiv,” he said.
“Based on our information now, there are only four Malaysians registered with the embassy who are still in Ukraine. Among those are Malaysians married to locals.”
Saifuddin was replying to a question from M Kula Segaran (PH-Ipoh Barat) on the number of Malaysians still stranded in Ukraine.
He said the embassy, in cooperation with Malaysian representatives in neighbouring countries, especially in Warsaw, Poland, was in close contact with the four Malaysians.
The embassy was ready to help the Malaysians if they wanted to leave Ukraine, and could help to facilitate their entry at the borders of neighbouring countries.
He also said the embassy could assist in providing documents such as emergency certificates for those who may need them.
On a 45-second video claiming that there was a group of four Malaysian students stranded in Ukraine, Saifuddin could not confirm if they were Malaysians or if their allegations were true.
