KUALA LUMPUR:
A student due to sit for his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia examination this year was arrested with another man on suspicion of being involved in a driving licence scam.

Kuala Lumpur commercial crime investigation department (CCID) chief Mahidisham Ishak said the student, 17, and the other male suspect, 22, were arrested at 10pm at a house in Durian Tunggal, Melaka, last Saturday.

He said a person had come across a Facebook post on March 29 offering driving licences to the public without having to go through the road transport department (JPJ) tests.

“The victim contacted the number and was promised a driving licence in return for RM490,” Mahidisham said in a statement today.

“After paying the money, the victim was asked to make further payments.

“He grew suspicious and lodged a police report. The suspects are now being investigated for fraud.”

Mahidisham said the suspects were remanded yesterday for three days for further investigation.

He reminded the public to obtain their driving licenses legally through proper channels.
