State executive councillor Akmal Kamarudin said a joint operation headed by the Environment Department found the source of odour pollution to be from the processing of e-waste scrap by smelting at high temperatures.
He said the operations produced gases and acidic water with an unpleasant odour. The scrap processing equipment and the e-waste had been confiscated, he said.
Akmal urged the public to report to the authorities any pollution activities and suspicious premises among the hundreds of factories in the area.
In another development, Akmal said 12 food samples taken in a food safety operation at Ramadan bazaars had been found to violate food regulations. Compound notices had been issued to the premises.
