PETALING JAYA:
A local ‘Casanova’ who purportedly conned several women for money has been arrested by the police after one of the victims lodged a report against him.

Dang Wangi commercial crime investigation chief Mahidisham Ishak said police arrested the 34-year old suspect on Wednesday following a report by a 39-year old victim on April 9.

The woman, who works as a clerk, met the suspect via social media.

Sometime later, after promising to marry her, he allegedly sought her help to pay off a debt that he had.

The woman agreed. She later met the man at a hotel in the city centre and handed her jewellery worth RM30,000.

At another meeting, the woman said the suspect persuaded her to share the deposit payment of a house he wanted to purchase. She gave RM122,500 to the man in staggered payments.

Mahidisham said the woman realised she had been conned when she found out that the man had asked the same things from other women at the same hotel. She then lodged a police report.

The suspect was arrested in the Klang Valley and police seized three mobile phones, RM18,000 in cash, nine gold bars and eight gold coins from him.

He has been remanded until tomorrow.

Mahidisham advised the public to be careful when using social media and to perform a thorough background check before committing to a relationship.
