PETALING JAYA:
The local music scene is mourning the death of Ahmad Danish Hakeem Mohamed Hanafiah, who was the bassist of an up-and-coming fusion band.

Danish, 19, was found dead in a Toyota Alphard in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur, on Sunday.

Noh Salleh, the frontman of popular band Hujan, described Danish as a “very talented bass player”, and said he would have become one of the great musicians in the country.

“I am saddened by his passing because we were very close. As a flamboyant guy, his death certainly left an impact on everyone who knew him.

“His passing is a big loss to the music community. He was very passionate about music and was said to carry the legacy of prominent bassists in the country,” Noh told FMT.

Family spokesman Mohamed Ariff, who also manages Danish’s band Banyak Bunyik Republik, said Danish was hardworking and never missed band practice “even when he was down with fever”.

“My two sons are also in the same band. I scouted him (Danish) when he was 13 years old after noticing his musical talent. I can tell you that he was very dedicated to his craft,” he said.

According to Mohamed, the band members would always inform him about their whereabouts.

He said they became worried when they couldn’t reach him last Wednesday.

The family subsequently lodged a missing persons report on Friday.

Meanwhile, condolences have been pouring in on the band’s Instagram page since Monday following the news of Danish’s passing.

Police are investigating the cause of death.
