PETALING JAYA:
The government is setting up a special committee to wage “jihad” on inflation, announced Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The five-member committee will be chaired by communications and multimedia minister Annuar Musa.

In a statement, Ismail said the committee was tasked to formulate strategies to tackle inflation and the rising prices of goods.

The members of the committee are finance minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz, agriculture and food industries minister Ronald Kiandee, domestic trade and consumer affairs minister Alexander Nanta Linggi, economic affairs minister Mustapa Mohamed and Chief Secretary to the Government Zuki Ali.

Ismail added that an officer in each ministry would be appointed as a reference officer to provide immediate feedback to the committee under the secretariat of the domestic trade and consumer affairs ministry.

He said the special committee would hold meetings twice a week, on Mondays and Thursdays, adding that a press conference would be held after each meeting to provide clarification on the issues discussed.

“The government is constantly working to ensure that Malaysian families are not seriously affected by inflation.”

Earlier today, the government announced the new ceiling price for chicken, with prices capped at RM9.40 per kg from Friday.

Currently, the price of standard whole chicken is capped at RM8.90 per kg.
