Joachim beats Joniston by 5 votes in race for PBS No 2 post

There were 65 spoilt ballots in the voting for the deputy president's position.

KOTA KINABALU:
Sabah deputy chief minister Joachim Gunsalam has won the race for the PBS deputy president’s post, under the non-Muslim Bumiputera quota, defeating Joniston Bangkuai, a state minister, by a mere five votes.

Joachim, the Kundasang assemblyman, obtained 339 votes against Joniston’s 334. There were 65 spoilt votes.

Before yesterday’s party elections, Joachim served as PBS secretary-general, while Joniston, the Kiulu assemblyman, served as information chief.

Joniston retains his post as information chief, while Matunggong assemblyman Julita Majungki has been appointed secretary-general. Lu Kim Yen is the treasurer-general.

In the contest for the PBS deputy president’s post (Chinese quota), former Kota Kinabalu MP Yee Moh Chai emerged the winner against former Tanjung Aru assemblyman Edward Yong.

Party president Maximus Ongkili, the Sabah and Sarawak affairs minister, retained his post uncontested. Jahid Jahim, deputy president (Muslim Bumiputera quota) also retained his post uncontested.

The other office-bearers are:

  • Vice-presidents – Arthur Sen, Ruslan Muharam, Mursid Mohd Rais, Hendrus Anding and Johnny Mositun.
  • Supreme Council members – Johnny Goh, Kong Nyuk Thou, Lim Vun Chan, Gan En Siong, Fazidah Mohd Yassin, Kasirin Kamiran, Juin Saman, Azmi Ahmad, Omar Abdul Hakim, Peter Jino Allion, Samuil Mopun, Fredolin Totin Bangon, Stanis Buandi, Suman Yasambun, William Majimbon and Masum Takin.
