Speculation is rife that Ismail could be announcing the dissolution of Parliament today to pave the way for a snap general election.
Yesterday, New Straits Times reported that Ismail had an audience with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to seek royal consent for the dissolution of Parliament.
Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi reportedly confirmed that Ismail had presented the suggested date for the dissolution of Parliament to the King.
“I am sure that the prime minister, who has the authority to advise the King, has done his duty. I think whenever the dissolution is announced, Barisan Nasional (BN) is always ready,” he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian.
“Even if (Parliament) is dissolved today, we are ready to help our BN candidates win.”
