According to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), Zulkeflee Abdullah, 54, was charged with failing to report receiving the bribes.

Zulkeflee pleaded not guilty to the charges before judge Rozilah Salleh.

The charges were framed under Section 25(1) of the MACC Act 2009 and punishable under Section 25(2) of the same Act, carrying a maximum RM100,000 fine or up to 10 years in jail, or both, if convicted.

In a statement, MACC said Zulkeflee received a total of RM90,000 from the managing director of a company between April 2011 and August 2012.

It said the bribes were kickbacks for the approval of the firm’s application to rent vendor space at the Kuching International Airport and at the Sibu, Bintulu and Labuan airports.

Rozilah set bail at RM15,000 and Zulkeflee was ordered to surrender his passport and report to the nearest MACC office every month.

Case management has been fixed for Nov 16.
