Construction work believed to have caused Kampung Budiman flood

Shah Alam district police representative says the area rarely experienced floods previously.

According to the police, the cause of the flash flood at Kampung Budiman could be the presence of a shallow water catchment area and construction work nearby.
SHAH ALAM:
The flash flood which hit Kampung Budiman here yesterday, affecting about 50 houses, is believed to have been caused by construction work carried out near the village.

“The cause of this flood may be due to the fact that there is a shallow water catchment area and construction work in the nearby area.

“Previously, Kampung Budiman rarely experienced floods, and even then, they were not as bad as this.

“Yesterday, the water rose quickly only after a few hours of heavy rain,” according to Shah Alam district police headquarters’ (IPD) internal security and public order division head Syed Azizi Jamallulail Syed Abdul Aziz.

He was speaking to reporters at the temporary relief centre at Al Falah mosque in Kampung Budiman.

Most of the victims who were placed at the centre have since gone home.

As of 12pm, a total of 45 people from 14 families were housed at the centre. Five people from two families were isolated in the public hall after testing positive for Covid-19.

A check by Bernama this afternoon around Meru town in Klang, which is located about 4km from Kampung Budiman, found that some areas were still flooded, with water about 0.15 metres deep.
