Madani is the Malay acronym for Sustainability, Care and Compassion, Respect, Innovation, Prosperity, and Trust.
At its core, the Madani concept reflects the trust forged between the government and the people on the basis of transparency and cooperation.
“Madani Nation” replaces former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob’s “Keluarga Malaysia” tagline.
Anwar said, with the new concept in mind, the government will focus strategically on eradicating poverty as well as restructuring the economy and bringing it forward towards recovery.
The new tagline was launched in conjunction with the discourse on “Developing a Madani Nation” at the Putrajaya International Convention Centre (PICC) here today.
This launch also saw the unveiling of Anwar’s book titled “Developing a Madani Nation” which features musings about his political experience that began from his days as a student to leading the Reformasi movement.
Meanwhile, deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi described the Madani concept as “not something new” as Anwar had been a strong proponent of it since a quarter century ago.
He also said the concept is not only a form of idealism but must be translated into new government policies and be used to modify existing ones.
“What’s more important is the question of implementation of a leader’s ideals,” he said, when met on the sidelines of the event.
