Zaliha appointed as vice-chair on WHO’s executive board

The health minister will represent the Western Pacific region, which consists of 37 countries.

Health minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa is one of the two new appointees to the World Health Organization’s executive board.

Health minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa has been appointed as the vice-chair of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) executive board.

The appointment was announced at the 152nd session of the board’s meeting in Geneva, Switzerland, today.

“It is an honour and privilege to be accepted as the vice-chair of the WHO executive board representing the Western Pacific region (WPR) for 2023-2024,” she tweeted.

Zaliha is one of two persons appointed to the board, with the other from Columbia.

The Western Pacific region consists of 37 countries, including several Southeast Asian countries (except Indonesia, Thailand, Myanmar and Timor-Leste), Australia, China, Japan, South Korea and New Zealand.
