PUTRAJAYA:
Clean water supply in Kedah has returned to normal, according to the National Water Services Commission (SPAN) today.

In a statement, it said a delegation, including chairman Charles Santiago and CEO Ahmad Faizal Abdul Rahman, conducted a site visit to Kedah and Penang on May 18 and 19.

They came to look into the water supply situation following a series of reports of falling water level at the dams and preparations for the El Nino phenomenon.

SPAN said during the visit, they also inspected the location of the problematic barrage along Sungai Muda and found that supply recovery had reached 100% for all affected areas.

In Penang, the delegation found that the water level at Air Itam dam was low at 41.5%, while at Teluk Bahang dam it was 45.7%.

SPAN said the rainy situation in Penang was expected to help raise the water level. Continued rain has been forecast until Sunday.

The visit also found that the sudden drop in river water levels in Sungai Muda, Kedah, which occurred on May 14 due to the sudden opening of some gates, had been brought under control.

Clean water supply was reported to have been fully restored on May 18 in Penang and today in Kedah.
