KUALA LUMPUR:
The sessions court has fixed Sept 19 to hear the prosecution’s bid to have Muhyiddin Yassin’s abuse of power and money laundering cases heard together.

Judge Azura Alwi fixed the hearing date today after deputy public prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib informed the court that both the prosecution and defence have filed the documents for the joint trial application.

Akram also said the prosecution had served some of the documents which will be used at the trial to Muhyiddin’s lawyers today, with more to be handed over later.

Azura told the prosecution and defence to file in their written submissions in connection with the joint trial application before Sept 8.

She also said Muhyiddin must be present in court on Sept 19. His attendance at today’s proceeding was dispensed with by the court.

On March 10, Muhyiddin, the Bersatu president and former prime minister, pleaded not guilty before the sessions court here on four counts of abuse of power in respect of RM232.5 million and two counts of money laundering for allegedly receiving RM195 million.

He was also slapped with an additional money laundering charge before the Shah Alam sessions court for allegedly receiving RM5 million.

The Shah Alam case has since been transferred to the court here.

Meanwhile, the High Court is set to rule on Aug 15 whether to allow Muhyiddin’s application to quash his money laundering and corruption charges, which he claims are defective.
