High voter turnout for early voting in 6 states

Voter turnout in Kedah was the highest at 96.02%.

A total of 72,554 military, police and general operations force personnel, and their spouses, went to cast their vote today to elect governments in six states.

Voter turnout at today’s early voting for military and police personnel was over 90% in each of the six states holding elections.

In a statement, Election Commission secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak said a total of 72,554 people, comprising personnel from the military, police, general operations force members and their spouses went to cast their vote.

Voter turnout in Kedah was the highest at 96.02%, followed by Terengganu (95.91%), Selangor (95.87%), Penang (95.01%), Negeri Sembilan (94.05%) and Kelantan (93.90%).

Meanwhile, early voting for the Kuala Terengganu parliamentary by-election, which involved 1,286 policemen and military personnel, as well as their spouses, was at 95.47%.

There were three early voting centres with five channels specifically for the Kuala Terengganu by-election.

“The EC extends its congratulations to all the election managers and their teams for carrying out their responsibilities exceptionally well today,” said Ikmalrudin.

In a Bernama report, a total of 260 early voting centres with 377 channels were opened for the polls in Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.

The general public will head to the polls in the six states on Saturday.
