JPJ issues over 14,600 summonses in 2-day op in Melaka

The summonses were issued for various offences under a special enforcement operation in conjunction with the festive season.

MELAKA:
The Road Transport Department (JPJ) issued 14,683 summonses for various offences over the past two days under its “Op Khas Hari Raya Aidilfitri (HRA) 2024”.

Its senior director (enforcement), Lokman Jamaan said out of the total, 7,785 summonses were issued to motorcyclists who failed to comply with road safety rules and laws.

“They include 3,283 cases of expired motor vehicle licence and no insurance, and no driving licence (2,681 cases).

“During the operation, JPJ also inspected 59,771 vehicles,” he told reporters during the operation in Jalan Tun Fatimah, Bachang, here.

Also present during the inspection were JPJ enforcement division deputy director (policy and strategic planning) Azmi Awang and Melaka JPJ director Muhammad Firdaus Shariff.

Lokman said in conjunction with Aidilfitri, JPJ was also conducting a special operation till April 20, in an effort to minimise the number of road accidents and deaths.

“Additionally, JPJ will also carry out inspections at 54 bus depots and 28 main bus terminals throughout this period to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of public transport services,” he added.
