PUTRAJAYA:
The by-election for the Kuala Kubu Baharu state seat in Selangor will be held on May 11, the Election Commission (EC) announced today.

This follows the death of its three-term assemblyman, DAP’s Lee Kee Hiong.

In a press conference at its headquarters this morning, EC chairman Abdul Ghani Salleh said the nomination of candidates for the by-election would be held on April 27, while early voting is set for May 7.

Lee died on March 21 after a battle with cancer. She first announced in 2020 that she had been diagnosed with stage one ovarian cancer but was in remission after undergoing treatment.

She underwent surgery in early 2023 before going on to defend the Kuala Kubu Baharu seat in the August state election.

She first won her seat in 2013 after defeating MCA’s Ooi Hui Wen with a 1,702-vote majority, and defended it in 2018 with a 7,134-vote majority over MCA’s Wong Koon Mun.

During the state election last year, Lee retained the seat for DAP with a 4,119-vote majority ahead of Gerakan’s Henry Teoh.
