“He was admitted to IJN yesterday due to a small spontaneous pneumothorax,” said Abdullah’s son-in-law, Khairy Jamaluddin.
“He is in a stable condition and is being monitored by doctors in the critical care unit. Alhamdulillah, he is doing well but requires rest.
“On behalf of the entire family, we deeply appreciate all the prayers and encouragement he has received,” Khairy said in an Instagram post.
Pneumothorax is a collection of air or gas in the cavity between the lung and the chest wall due to a leak in the framework of the chest and lung, or the lung itself, which causes the organ to shrink.
Khairy, who is married to Abdullah’s daughter Nori, said IJN had advised against Abdullah receiving visitors for now.
In 2022, Khairy revealed that Abdullah was suffering from dementia and could not remember the names of his wife, Jeanne Abdullah, and other family members.
Abdullah served as the fifth prime minister from October 2003 until his resignation in 2009. He was also the Kepala Batas MP for seven terms from 1979 to 2013.
