PETALING JAYA:
No rape charge will be filed against preacher Ebit Irawan Ibrahim Lew, better known as Ebit Lew, following a decision by the prosecution, says his lawyer.

Akberdin Abdul Kader said police notified him about the decision yesterday after the investigation paper was submitted to the prosecution.

“The police have also returned Ebit’s mobile phone and a SIM card that were seized during the investigation,” he said.

It was reported last September that Ebit was being investigated over the alleged rape of Indonesian influencer Mondy Tattoo.

Bukit Aman criminal investigation department director Shuhaily Zain said 13 individuals were questioned to facilitate an investigation into two separate allegations of sexual assault and defamation involving Mondy and Ebit.

He said the influencer alleged that she was raped by the preacher, with Ebit lodging a police report claiming that he had been defamed.

Akberdin claimed the Shah Alam sessions court has set July 1 to determine the quantum of damages in Ebit’s defamation suit against Mondy.

Ebit, 38, is currently facing 11 charges, including outraging the modesty of a woman by sending obscene words and images to her phone, in a separate case.

The charges under Section 509 of the Penal Code provide for a prison sentence of up to five years or a fine, or both, if convicted.
