Cars stranded as flash flood swamps parts of Melaka

Torrential rain in Melaka left key areas flooded, including roads near Jalan Autocity and prompted the temporary suspension of Melaka River Cruise's services.

Several areas in Melaka have been hit by flash floods following torrential rain this afternoon.

Lebuh Sungai Udang-Paya Rumput-Ayer Keroh near Jalan Autocity, Jalan Gangsa, and Jalan Krubong towards Pantai Belimbing have been affected by flash floods, the public works department said.

The area surrounding the Melaka International Trade Centre was also affected.

Pictures and videos on social media showed cars left stranded in waters above knee level. Other netizens also reported that areas around UiTM and Universiti Teknikal Malaysia in Melaka have been affected by the floods.

Melaka River Cruise announced that it has suspended its boat services due to rising water levels and strong currents in the Melaka River as a result of unpredictable weather conditions and heavy rainfall.
