
PETALING JAYA: An eight-year-old Sarawakian, Dion Das Louis, has won two gold medals in a US competition considered to be the “Olympics” of the performing arts.
The boy, who is known as the “Little Bornean Birdie”, won gold medals in the junior division ethnic dance and photo shoot model categories of the world championships of the performing arts, according to the Borneo Post.
Dion’s dance was inspired by the traditional Dayak Iban ‘ngajat’, which incorporates elements of the ruai (great Malaysian Argus pheasant) and the kenyalang (hornbill), both are birds which symbolise Sarawak.
Dion, who hails from Kuching, also won a silver medal in the formal model and casual model categories.
The Malaysian team of 15 participants won 13 gold, 11 silver, and 13 bronze medals.
