Takiyddin Hassan (PN- Kota Bharu) alleged that Azalina’s had misled the Dewan Rakyat last week when she said she was not involved in the attorney-general’s appointment as well as the affairs of the Federal Territories Pardons Board (FTPB).
However, he pointed out that a media statement issued by the board on Feb 22 indicated that the secretariat was under the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) of the Prime Minister’s Department.
“That division falls under the purview of the law minister herself (Azalina), so in my view, she has misled the house,” he told the Dewan Rakyat today.
Takiyuddin said he did not intend to submit a motion to refer Azalina to the rights and privileges committee, although he had the option to do so.
“(Azalina explaining) is sufficient, because this involves my integrity,” he said.
However, Speaker Johari Abdul advised Takiyuddin to submit a motion on his request for the minister to explain herself.
Last week, Azalina and Takiyuddin locked horns after the PAS MP brought up the purported “addendum”.
Takiyuddin had interjected Azalina’s winding-up speech on the Supply Bill 2025 to ask her to state whether the addendum actually existed.
He said Azalina is the minister in charge of the Attorney-General’s Chambers and the AG is part of the FTPB which decided on the former prime minister’s application for a royal pardon.
Azalina fired back, saying that Takiyuddin was a law minister during Muhyiddin Yassin’s administration and he should be “smarter than to assume” that the AG reports to her.
She also asked if he was admitting that he had given directions to the AG when he was the law minister.
