Man charged over non-existent Andy Lau, Jay Chou concert tickets

Ex-employee of entertainment company accused of cheating victim of RM67,608 for 36 'VIP tickets'.

KUALA LUMPUR:
A former employee of an entertainment company claimed trial at the magistrates’ court here today to a charge of fraud involving 36 VIP tickets for concerts by international singers Andy Lau and Jay Chou.

Thomas Lee, 30, was accused of deceiving a 38-year-old man by tricking him into purchasing 16 non-existent VIP tickets for the “Today … Is The Day Andy Lau Concert Tour 2024 In Malaysia” and 20 VIP tickets for the “Jay Chou’s Carnival World Tour 2024 Concert In Malaysia”.

The Andy Lau concert took place from Oct 24 to 27 at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil, while the Jay Chou concert was held on Oct 26 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

The victim had transferred a total of RM67,608 through three transactions to Lee’s bank account.

The offence is alleged to have been committed at Bandar Kinrara, Puchong, between May 25 and Sept 5.

The charge was framed under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating, punishable by up to 10 years in prison, whipping and a fine, upon conviction.
