Both Malaysian men's doubles pairs secure three-game victories in their second group matches.

National men’s doubles shuttlers Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik have booked a semi-final berth in the RM11 million BWF World Tour Finals in Hangzhou, China, after coming from a game down to win their second group match today.

Aaron-Wooi Yik, ranked No 5 in the world, defeated Indonesia’s world No 4 Fajar Alfian-Muhammad Rian Ardianto 19-21, 21-14, 21-15 to top Group B after two matches. It was the Malaysians’ fifth win in nine encounters with the Indonesians so far.

Despite losing the first game after trailing all the way, the Malaysians bounced back with some superb attacking play to win the match in 57 minutes.

In their opening group tie yesterday, they also overcame a first game loss to defeat home pair He Ji Ting-Ren Xiang Yu 17-21, 21-18, 21-15 in 62 minutes.

The Malaysians will take on world No 11 Sabar Karyaman Gutama-Moh Reza Pahlevi tomorrow in their final group tie. A win will confirm top position in their group and they will go on to play the runner-up of Group A in the semi-final on Saturday.

Earlier, national men’s doubles pair Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani also came back from a game down to defeat Taiwanese pair Lee Jhe Huei-Yang Poh Hsuan 15-21, 21-19, 21-13 to keep their semi-final hopes alive at the World Tour Finals.

Displaying confidence and determination after losing the first game, the Malaysian world No 7 pair took 52 minutes to overcome their rivals, whom they have now beaten three times in four outings.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin are back in the running for a semi-final berth and need to win their final group match tomorrow against another Taiwanese pair, Lee Yang-Wang Chih Lin, who are also in the running for a semi-final spot after recording one win and a loss.

In the opening group tie yesterday, Sze Fei-Izzuddin lost to world No 3 Kim Astrup-Anders Skaarup Rasmussen of Denmark 18-21, 21-16, 14-21. Sze Fei injured his right leg when he and Izzuddin were trailing 14-18 in the decider.

Astrup- Rasmussen who have already qualified for the semi-final after winning both their group matches will meet Jhe Huei-Poh Hsuan tomorrow, with the Taiwanese pair out of the running after two losses.
