PETALING JAYA:
Police have denied claims circulating on WhatsApp alleging that they had refused to accept a police report from a man who was stabbed in the eye.

Bentong police chief Zaiham Kahar said a report was lodged by the victim on Dec 24 one hour after the incident occurred at the car park of a resort in Janda Baik.

“The viral claim is not true as we received a report and investigated the case. The victim was also sent to Temerloh hospital for treatment,” he said in a statement.

Zaiham did not elaborate on the status of the investigation.

An officer with Bentong police’s criminal investigation department has since lodged a police report over the claim, with a probe under way under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities.

Zaiham urged the person who spread the claim to come forward for further investigation.

The viral claim alleged that a delivery rider had been stabbed in the eye by a customer, and that the victim tried to file a police report several times but the police rejected them.
