PETALING JAYA:
A grass cutter was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment by the magistrates’ court in Melaka after pleading guilty to physically assaulting his wife for refusing intercourse.

The accused, 32, pleaded guilty after the charge was read to him before magistrate Khairunnisak Hassni.

He was accused of causing hurt to his wife in order to have sexual intercourse with her, framed under Section 375A of the Penal Code, punishable by imprisonment of up to five years upon conviction.

Based on the facts of the case, the accused slapped, choked, and punched the woman multiple times when she refused his advances.

The woman only managed to free herself by escaping their bedroom and calling for her father-in-law, who lives with the couple, Sinar Harian reported.

The wife, who works as an assistant at an eatery, had refused the accused’s advances as she was tired from taking care of their one-year-old child.

It is understood that she could no longer endure the accused’s demands for daily sexual activity.

Deputy public prosecutor Hanis Aliah Ahmad Kamarulnajuib asked for an appropriate sentence for the accused, given that the victim was his wife.

The man, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a lighter sentence, saying he regretted his actions and pledged not to repeat the offence.

The magistrate then sentenced him to six months in jail, calculated from the date of his arrest last Friday.
