PETALING JAYA:
Police are investigating a TikTok video in which a former MP is believed to have accused Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of involvement in the investigation into former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

According to Bernama, the video also links home minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail with the corruption probe into the Bera MP.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain said the investigation began after a man representing an NGO lodged a report at the Dang Wangi police station yesterday afternoon.

“We will ask the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission to identify the account owner,” he said.

He said the investigation is being carried out under Section 500 of the Penal Code for defamation and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.

In the video, a former MP had allegedly accused Anwar and Saifuddin of involvement in the investigation into Ismail.

Earlier, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief Azam Baki said Ismail was being called in as a suspect in the ongoing investigation into four senior officers linked to him.

MACC said about RM170 million in cash and 16kg of gold bars worth millions of ringgit had been seized in raids on the residences of the four officers and three other premises believed to be “safe houses”.

Anwar had advised the public against condemning Ismail, urging everyone to give the authorities space to conduct their investigation professionally.

“Due process must be observed. The investigation process is ongoing, so we shouldn’t make judgments yet. Let’s respect the legal process,” he said.
