PETALING JAYA:
The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has remanded two people, including a person with a Datuk title, on suspicion of filing false claims totalling about RM450 million.

The Putrajaya magistrates’ court issued a two-day remand order for the Datuk until May 6, and a five-day order for the other suspect until May 9.

According to a source, both suspects were arrested at about 7pm yesterday when they gave their statements at the MACC headquarters in Putrajaya.

“A preliminary investigation found that the two suspects are believed to have filed false claims amounting to about RM450 million in sukuk funds, facilitated by a federal office in a highway construction project in the Klang Valley worth about RM1.3 billion.

“Their arrest follows previous arrests involving false claims for about RM360 million. All the false claims involved are worth about RM800 million,” the source said.

The Datuk was previously remanded for four days from April 30 in connection with RM360 million in false claims.

Last week, five other people were remanded in relation to the case. Four of them have been freed on MACC bail.

MACC investigation division senior director Zainul Darus confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009 for filing false claims.
