Yew Sin-Ee Yi upstage top Thai pair to enter China Open quarters

The world No 28 pair beat 13th ranked Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Kittinupong Kedren in straight games.

Men’s doubles pair Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi have qualified for the quarter-finals of the China Open by defeating Thailand’s Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Kittinupong Kedren.

The 28th ranked Malaysians, who made it to the Japan Open semi-final last week, took just 29 minutes to storm past the higher-ranked Thais 21-16, 21-16.

Yew Sin-Ee Yi will next meet top Indian pair Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty in the quarter-finals.

Their performance matched their sharp and composed style in Tokyo, where they made headlines with their giant-killing feats.

This is the second time that Yew Sin-Ee Yi have beaten the Thai pair and their fourth consecutive quarter-final appearance at the China Open.

Two other Malaysian pairs have qualified for the tournament’s quarter-finals, namely Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei in the mixed doubles and top women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah. Both pairs won their matches easily in the second round.

The China Open is a World Tour Super 1000 event which offers a total cash prize of US$2 million (RM8.4 million).
