Power outage in Klang Valley, Johor due to Melaka plant issue, says TNB

The utility company says its technical teams are working to restore electricity supply in stages.

The power disruption affecting several areas in the Klang Valley and Johor Bahru this evening was due to issues affecting a power plant in Melaka, said Tenaga Nasional Bhd.

TNB said the supply interruption originated from issues at the Edra power plant in Melaka.

“TNB’s technical teams are working to restore electricity supply in stages to affected users,” it said in a Facebook post.

It is understood that the power plant is operated by a subsidiary of Edra Power Holdings Sdn Bhd, an international independent power producer.

Earlier, FMT reported that several areas in the Klang Valley were  hit by a power outage.

According to netizens, the areas that experienced blackouts included Section 8 in Petaling Jaya, Universiti Malaya, Bukit Damansara, and Mont Kiara.

Other social media users on X said Mid Valley Megamall, Pavilion Damansara, and TRX were also affected.

Some netizens also claimed they experienced power outages in Johor Bahru, Melaka, Ipoh, Kuantan and Sendayan.

In another Facebook post, TNB said that as of 5.30pm, power supply had been restored in Damansara City, Sri Hartamas, Danau Desa, SPPK Cheras, Ampang, Bukit Jalil, Sri Damansara, Kota Puteri and Pasir Gudang Darat.
