PETALING JAYA:
Hundreds of Malaysians are reportedly stranded in Hatyai following flash floods in the southern Thai district after two days of heavy rain.

Thai authorities have restricted movements in Hatyai because of rising water levels along several main routes, Sinar Harian reported.

In a post on Threads, Fatin Shaida said her family was supposed to return to Malaysia today but were told that the main roads leading out of Hatyai were temporarily unsafe.

Another Threads user, Atiqah Syazwani, said her family was unable to leave the hotel they are staying in.

It is understood that Thai authorities are actively monitoring the situation and directing heavy vehicles and trucks to assist in evacuating those trapped in low-lying areas.

Residents in 103 communities have been told to move their belongings and prepare for possible evacuation because of the severe flooding.

Thai prime minister Anutin Charnvirakul is scheduled to visit the area today to observe the flood relief efforts.
