
In a statement, Dang Wangi police chief Sazalee Adam said the #TangkapAzamBaki secretariat had yet to notify the cops of the protest.
“We advise the public to comply with the law and not to use the platform of public gatherings to breach public peace or threaten public safety,” he said.
Section 9 of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 requires organisers of assemblies to notify the relevant district police chief of a gathering five days in advance.
In January, government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said the Cabinet had decided to amend that provision, although he did not disclose further details.
This was after the Federal Court ruled that it was unconstitutional to criminalise the failure to notify the police five days in advance of holding a peaceful assembly.
Two days ago, Bersih deputy chairman Kelvin Lee said the protest on April 25 would press for a “full investigation” into Azam’s alleged shareholding and the purported manipulation of corporate takeovers involving MACC.
