The victim, Asri Nazri, 32, who was riding his younger brother’s Yamaha Y15 motorcycle, was disabled.
“Investigations found that the accident occurred at around 8.30pm, with the driver of the Hino lorry said to be heading from Taman Sejati to the company where he works,” said Kuala Muda police chief Hanyan Ramlan.
“While the lorry was turning right, the motorcyclist, approaching from the opposite direction, crashed into the left side of the lorry,” he said in a statement.
The victim was taken to Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital and died at 6.45am today.
“The 53-year-old lorry driver tested positive for cannabis. We will seek a remand order against him tomorrow,” Hanyan said, adding that the case is being investigated under Section 44 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death while driving under the influence.
