KUALA LUMPUR:
A man who crashed into two motorcyclists along Jalan Sultan Ismail early yesterday pleaded not guilty at the magistrates’ court here today to two charges of reckless and dangerous driving.

Bernama reported that TS Kugenthiran, 25, entered his plea after the charges were read out before magistrate Tg Syazwany Yasmyn Tuan Roslan.

Kugenthiran is accused of having driven recklessly, endangering Afiq Zayani Azliyuszaini, 24, and Hairy Abdul Rahman, 19, on Jalan Sultan Ismail, heading from the city centre towards Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman, at 4.30am yesterday.

The charges were framed under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which carries a maximum of five years’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM15,000, disqualification from holding or obtaining a driving licence for at least two years, and cancellation of a probationary licence upon conviction.

Deputy public prosecutor Nurbatrisyia Razib proposed bail of RM4,000 per charge with one surety.

However, the accused’s lawyer, Ahmad Nadzli Rizal, sought a lower bail, stating that his client worked part-time in Genting Highlands and is awaiting admission for further studies.

The court granted bail of RM3,000 for each charge with one surety and set June 15 for case mention.

The crash on April 2 left Afiq with a severed leg, while Hairy sustained fractures to his left arm and left leg. They were taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for treatment.
