PETALING JAYA:
Police have submitted investigation papers to prosecutors regarding an accident in which an 85-year-old woman was killed after being hit by a multi-purpose vehicle on Jalan 1/48A, Bandar Baru Sentul, on Jan 11.

In a statement, Kuala Lumpur traffic investigation and enforcement department chief Zamzuri Isa said police were now awaiting further instructions.

He said preliminary investigations showed that the incident occurred at about 9.15am when a car driven by a 42-year-old man exited a row of shoplots before turning right and hitting the woman who was crossing the road.

“Investigations at the scene found that the area was not a designated pedestrian crossing,” he said.

Zamzuri said the woman sustained severe head injuries and was pronounced dead while receiving treatment at Kuala Lumpur Hospital.

A 29-second dashcam video of the incident circulated on social media in January.

Kuala Lumpur police had previously said the driver involved in the accident did not attempt to flee the scene.

However, the victim’s family disputed the police’s preliminary findings, alleging that the driver had failed to brake in time after hitting the woman and had continued driving, running over her.
