Azam was about six minutes into his address at the Wacana Ilmiah Perdana when a protester appeared in front of the stage where the MACC chief was speaking while holding up a placard.
Another emerged from behind seconds later, carrying a placard that called for Azam’s arrest, believed to be in relation to the MACC chief’s shareholdings case.
They were promptly escorted out of the hall by security personnel, with the disruption lasting just a short while.
Azam was unperturbed as he continued delivering his speech on integrity and good governance.
The event was jointly organised by MACC, Asia e University and World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur.
Azam left promptly after finishing his speech and declined to respond to queries from reporters, saying he had a meeting to attend.
It is understood that the protesters were from the #TangkapAzamBaki secretariat, which plans to hold a rally against Azam at Dataran Merdeka on April 25.
When contacted, Liga Mahasiswa Malaysia president Alyaah Hani Anuar said one of the protesters has been arrested by police.
FMT has reached out to Kuala Lumpur police for comment.
