PETALING JAYA:
A civil servant and a company director have been remanded for allegedly giving and receiving about RM500,000 in exchange for not taking action over offences related to the declaration of subsidised oil purchases.

Putrajaya magistrate Ezrene Zakariah granted a four-day remand order this morning following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.

An MACC source said the two suspects, in their 30s and 40s, were arrested at about 8.50pm yesterday while giving their statements at the anti-graft agency’s headquarters in Putrajaya.

A preliminary investigation found that the suspects are believed to have colluded in committing the offence in April 2024, with the bribes allegedly paid in stages.

MACC senior deputy director of investigations (operations control and coordination) Yuhafiz Salleh confirmed the arrests and said the case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009 involving corruption for the benefit of one’s organisation.
