PETALING JAYA:
An assistant canteen operator was fined RM2,000, in default six months’ jail, by the Bachok magistrates’ court in Kelantan today after pleading guilty to possessing about 100 pornographic files on her phone.

Berita Harian reported that Siti Munirah Muhamad, 32, entered her plea after the charge against her was read before magistrate Fakhrul Razzi Abd Hamid.

She was accused of possessing pornographic videos on a Realme 9 phone at a house in Kampung Kubang Telaga, at 8pm, on April 6.

The charge was under Section 292 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to three years’ imprisonment, a fine or both if convicted.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Aiman Syahmi Yazid, while Siti Munirah was represented by Norizaidah Abdul Salam from the National Legal Aid Foundation.

Norizaidah requested a fine, saying her client is a single mother earning RM35 a day.

“The accused has a 15-year-old daughter, has repented and promises not to repeat the offence to set a good example for her child,” she said.

However, Aiman requested a commensurate sentence to serve as a lesson to the accused and society.
