PETALING JAYA:
The Kuching magistrates’ court today sentenced an unemployed man to 12 months’ jail for threatening to kill his wife by running her over with a car.

Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan meted out the sentence on Yusof Abu Bakar, 39, after he pleaded guilty to criminal intimidation, Borneo Post reported.

The charge was framed under Section 506 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of seven years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The offence was committed at a consulate office on Jalan Central Timur in Kuching at about 7.45am on April 2.

According to the facts of the case, Yusof threatened to “run over and kill” his wife when she returned home from work.

His wife lodged a police report, leading to his arrest.

She said Yusof had frequently harassed her at her workplace, and that they had been living separately for about two months because of marital issues.

Nur Syafiqa Nyaie Ilin appeared for the prosecution, while Yusof was unrepresented.
