PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested the CEO of a statutory body on suspicion of soliciting and accepting a bribe from a building contractor in connection with the construction of a squash court complex.
Harian Metro quoted a source from MACC as saying the suspect, in his 40s, was detained at about 7.20pm on April 13.
“The suspect is believed to have asked for RM1 million in exchange for approving the contractor’s payment claims, and is alleged to have already received RM500,000 as an advance prior to Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
“The suspect was arrested at a shopping complex in Bukit Jalil after allegedly receiving a further RM100,000 from the contractor,” the source said.
The suspect is expected to be brought before the Putrajaya magistrates’ court on April 14 for a remand application.
